The good, the bad and the eyeliner...

Today was Pinewood Derby Day!  We got up early, went to church and then it was off to the races!

Jack did good, but didn't place.  Poor guy, he really wanted to get a trophy.  Good news is.....he had fun!

He did win for best "camouflage car" and that put a big ole smile on his face.

Who knew Pinewood Derby lasted 4 hours???

Bad news....his sisters were really bored.  This is how Lucy looked most of the day.

and here's the eyeliner.....and the foundation.
I really hope we look back at this one day and laugh.  Right now, this does not put a smile on my face.  I'm trying to teach her that she's a natural beauty and doesn't need makeup.  She's almost a teen and is trying to assert her independence and obviously, her creativity.  :)

The Weigh In...

Jack is a first year Webelo and now is the time for Pinewood Derby!  I have to admit, I'm just as excited as he is.  :)

Jack has been working really hard on his car and we had the official weigh in last night. We are all excited for Jack and looking forward to the Pinewood Derby race on Sunday.

Go "Heavy Tank!"

These are not great quality photos, but you get the idea.

The Middle of the Bus

Lucy and I had a great little girls lunch on Saturday.  Lucy was telling me all about Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks.

When she was done sharing with me all she had learned this week she said,  " Back then I probably would have had to sit in the middle of the bus....cause I'm a little bit brown."

I couldn't help but laugh!  In her 7 year old mind, if the white people sat in the front, and black people sat in the black, then of course the brown people would have sat in the middle.

I am so thankful for how far we have come, but realize we still have far to go.

Something fun for the New Year

I'm participating in a 52 week photo challenge to, break me out of the box, so to speak.
I enjoy taking photos of the kids, but want to find new and interesting things to take photos of. I love the idea of having an assignment each week and trying to get the perfect shot. Olivia is even helping me and we're coming up with fun, creative ideas together.

You can check out my weekly photos at Olive Cat.
I will also be taking a photography class at the local community college and an online course. I'm so excited!
